Research wizard
Genealogical Data Analysis helps you advance your research by identifying missing sources of information and organizing their retrieval.
To guarantee the completeness and traceability of your information, Genealogical Data Analysis :
- checks that the information is correct (e.g. date of birth);
- checks that the information is sourced, i.e. that the document from which the information was transcribed is indicated in the sources.
The Research Wizard then draws up a list of searches to be carried out, using the method of your choice.
The Research Wizard window

To display the wizard window, you need to open the main Genealogical Data Analysis window and select a file from the list, then :
- either use the “Files” menu / “Show searches” option;
- or use the
button on the banner; - or right-click on the list and select the “Show searches” option.
Search information
The research wizard window displays information about the selected search.

You can :
- Select another search by choosing it from the list and using the [Use this search] button.
- Calculate or recalculate the hive using the [Calculate search] button.
- Choose a “root” person from which to display results (depending on the search method chosen) by selecting it from the list and using the [Select] button.
- Create a search from an analysis by selecting the analysis from the list and using the [Create search] button.
Information on individuals and information
The research wizard window displays the list of individuals in the order resulting from the selected search method.

For each individual, the list indicates missing or unsourced information.
Suggested action(s)
For each item of information to be searched, the research wizard displays the recommended action(s). Simply select a line from the list on the left (list of individuals and information) to display the suggested actions on the right.

Proposed actions are defined according to the information to be searched and the information already known. Each action is proposed in the following form:
- Finding: this is the reason why the wizard proposes an action. For example: “The birth of an individual is not sourced”.
- Suggested action: this is the action to be taken. For example, “Search for information on the individual’s place of birth”.
- Evidence: this is a reminder of what is known. For example, the name, date and place of birth of the individual for whom information is to be sought.
- Suggested action(s): These are detailed instructions with as much detail as possible about the action to be carried out.
The number of proposed actions depends on the information to be sought and the information already known. If no action can be proposed, the assistant will tell you why. In general, the reason is the absence of known information.
Create a search
You can create a search for each analysis performed on the GEDCOM file.

To create a search :

You can choose the search method to be used:
- Follow a progressive method (by ascendants): by selecting this method, Genealogical Data Analysis searches for the ascendants of the root person (see below) and displays them in the order of the ascendants of this root person (browsing the paternal branch then the maternal branch).
- Follow a progressive method (by descendants): by selecting this method, Genealogical Data Analysis searches for the root person’s descendants (see below) and displays them in the order of that root person’s descent.
