Search for people entered more than once (duplicates)

This window lets you perform searches to identify people who have been entered in more than one copy of your database.

Remarque
It is likely that people are entered several times in your data while you are researching your genealogy. We recommend that you read our article explaining why this is normal and how to deal with it

Modify criteria values

Genealogical Data Analysis - Fenêtre de recherche des personnes en double - Critères
Genealogical Data Analysis – Duplicate person search window – Criteria

The window displays criteria that influence the results displayed:

  • The period to be taken into account: indicated in number of years, this allows you to specify how many years before and after the search period extends. For example, if the value is 20 and you’re looking for people with the same name who were born in the same period, the results will include people born between 20 years before and 20 years after the person.
  • Show searches without proposals: this option displays searches that have not led to the identification of any proposals. This option is disabled by default to reduce the amount of information displayed in the results.
  • Show individuals without proposal: this option displays individuals for whom none of the selected searches identified a proposal. This option is disabled by default to reduce the amount of information displayed in the results.

These criteria can be modified.

Remarque
You can modify the value proposed when the window opens in the options(Cf. options). These choices remain modifiable while the search is in use

Start search

Before starting the search :

  • Select the searches that seem most relevant to you.
  • Select the display criteria:
    • Period to be taken into account before and after dates.
    • Display searches with no duplicates.
    • Display of persons for whom searches do not suggest duplicates.

View duplicate search results

All proposals for duplicate persons (or more…) are displayed in the window. They are grouped for each person and for each search performed.

Remarque
If a search finds no proposal, it is only displayed if the “Display searches without proposal” criterion is checked. Otherwise, it is not displayed

Proposals are displayed using a color code for each piece of information:

  • green: information matches.
  • red: information does not match.

The more information in green, the greater the probability that this person is a duplicate.

Remarque
We’ve chosen to display all proposals, even if some may seem unlikely (for example, a person of a different sex). Data entry errors are not uncommon in genealogy data…

Print or export duplicate search results

Once you’ve completed your duplicate search, you can print out the resulting list, or export it in Word or Excel format.

To do this, use the [Print results] button.
